Shaj Mathew is a Ph.D. candidate in comparative literature at Yale. His literary criticism has appeared in The New York Times Book Review and The New Republic, as well as online in The New Yorker, among other venues. His scholarly writing has appeared in Critique. Mostly he writes on contemporary American, Latin American, and Middle Eastern literature, film, and art.
